‘Crossing a Frozen Sea’ is a 20-minute long Ambient track that seems to reference the alienation of the Residents’ Eskimo album, but quickly turns into an almost driving and kind of staccato elegy, frozen in time between a definite 90′s Intelligent Ambient influence and an understated reference to 80′s Industrial music. ‘Threads’, the 1984 BBC documentary-like account of a nuclear war, seen from the perspective of the city of Sheffield, was a definite influence on Red Stars Over Tokyo while producing this track. Its sense of the world ending and a forced acceptance of what has just happened define ‘Crossing a Frozen Sea’ and give an eeriness to its undeniable beauty.

If you're looking for a friendly way into the Opal Tapes catalogue I'm afraid there isn't one. However, this is a great (and very decently priced) introduction to the distinct sound this label has made its own with some fantastic slices of techno. AJ.
